My given name is Ngozi, but for this blog and future work I will do for the Lord, I sign with my pen name, which is also my middle name, D’vorah (Deborah). The name “Deborah” (דְּבוֹרָה, Devorah in Hebrew) means “bee.” Bees are known for honey production, a product that provides nourishment and sustenance, both for the bees themselves and for humans. Metaphorically, The process of bees collecting nectar (a raw, basic substance) and transforming it into honey (a refined, valuable product) can be seen as a metaphor for creative processes in life. Just as bees turn nectar into honey, people can take raw experiences, ideas, or emotions and refine them into something valuable and meaningful.

In the Bible, Deborah is a prominent figure known as a prophetess and judge of Israel, as described in the Book of Judges (Chapters 4 and 5). She is celebrated for her wisdom, leadership, and courage, particularly in leading the Israelites to victory against their enemies. A key fun fact is that I often interpret my middle name as LIGHT BE! The word “Orah” (אורה) in Hebrew generally means “light” or “illumination.” It is derived from the root word “Or” (אוֹר), which means “light.” “Orah” can also symbolize spiritual enlightenment, joy, or guidance, often used in a metaphorical sense to describe the light that comes from understanding or divine presence.

Before I was born, a prophet envisioned my life’s potential, believing my mother would bear a son destined for great things. But when I was revealed to be a girl, my mother, filled with faith, declared that I would fulfill those prophetic promises as a prophetess and named me Deborah. Over time, God has shown me that this name holds deep spiritual significance for me. While I don’t claim the title of prophetess, as I haven’t been formally appointed by God, I carry within me the knowledge of divine secrets that will one day come to pass.
